Schöne Spielereien mit Javascript
Gestern hab ich bei der Recherche für eine neue Zeitschrift eine sehr schöne Spielerei mit Javascript gefunden auf der brasilianischen Inkscape-Seite (deren Quellcode extrem kacka ist). Man muss einfach im ersten Absatz über die Links streifen, also über W3C oder SVG. Zusammen mit dem Link steht nämlich auch noch versteckter Text drinnen der dann angezeigt wird wenn man drüberfährt. Die Umsetzung ist jetzt nicht so ideal, ich hätt's lieber als title-Attribut mitgegeben, dann würden die Suchmaschienen das auch nicht als Trickserei ansehen.
Die andere Spielerei die ich gesehn hab war bei Deviantart. Hier hat man in einer recht niedrigen Zeile eine Box die etwas zu hoch ist. Im inaktiven Modus wird der vertikale Überstand nicht angezeigt und sogar sehr hübsch gefaded in die Transparenz. Aber sobald man über die Box fährt wird auch der Rest angezeigt. Sehr hübsch um auch noch Details anzuzeigen die visuell eher weniger Platz einnehmen sollen.
WP theme: Lilomilo
Lilomilo is a Wordpress theme with a clean design and only a few color spots. If white with blue and green tabs is you thing, go for it. As usual the template is widget-ready and works with 2.0 and 2.1.

Hatschimi is a Wordpress theme with a nice pattern in the background, a drawing of the face of the mysterious ancient creature Hatschimi. Don't be feared of Hatschmi, he won't harm you. As usual the template uses JQuery, is highly configureable (ads, how many posts to extend etc.). widget-ready and works with 2.0 and 2.1.
The name has no meaning at all but sounds nice to me and I can make up stories about it ;-) The pattern in the background was created by drawing after a pattern I found at flickr but it was changed heavily. The face actually was a part of the pattern which I also changed heavily. The svg for Inkscape is included for the case you want to modify the pattern. Due to use of png alpha IE6 has a problem displaying it properly, but I don't give a shit about. Get Firefox, or at least IE7.

Orange Cut is a Wordpress theme with stripes and blood oranges in the background. The photograph is from Living in Monrovia and CC-By-SA. But it's easy to exchange the image. Wie ich letztens schon geschrieben hab schaukelt sich das Thema immer weiter hoch, jetzt hat Matt bei WLTC einen Artikel geschrieben samt einer Abstimmung auf wordpress.org um die Frage (zumindest aus Sicht von wordpress.org) quasi endgültig zu klären. Leider auf die radikale Tour keine sponsored themes mehr zu erlauben aber ich glaube dass wird nur kurzfristig eine Änderung mit sich bringen.
Ich für meinen Teil gib das bisherige Sponsoring auf, braucht mir eh kaum was pro Theme aber wer ein Theme komplett inklusive Vertriebsrechte haben will der kann sich ja melden. Es sind schon drei Themes fast fertig die rauswollen. Dass der Sponsor als Autor auftritt ist also die eine Variante die auch Matt's Verbot überleben würde. Die andere Variante wird sein dass nur noch erfolgreiche Themes nachträglich gesponsort werden. Das ist dann nur noch schwer zu überwachen für Matt und Co.
Rip-Offs von Wordpress themes
Wo wir schon beim Thema sind, Derek ist recht angepisst weil das (unveröffentlichte) Theme seines Blogs von einigen chinesischen Usern einfach kopiert wird. Ist ja einfach sowas aber machen sollte man's ja trotzdem nicht.
Wordpress theme sponsoring: nächste Runde
Bei Weblog Tools Collection wurde die nächste Runde eingeläutet. Die Argumente sind soweit bekannt, die eine Seite will gesponsorte Themes ignorieren (und wahrscheinlich gern in ihrem Beruf umsonst arbeiten ;-) und die andere Seite sieht's halt als OK an, solange die Qualität der Wordpress-Themes endlich mal wieder steigt und nicht weiter fällt.
Das einzige neue Argument das ich gefunden hab war dass man als white-hat designer sponsor-links machen kann aber mit einer einfachen Möglichkeit diesen nicht anzuzeigen, also auf der configure-page. Das klingt doch mal ganz gut, oder? Kombiniert damit dass man die Sponsoren erst später aufnimmt sobald das Theme erfolgreich ist. Andreas Viklund kriegt laut eigener Aussage übrigens Angebote zwischen 2000 und 5000 um in einem theme den Sponsorlink nur einen Monat zu platzieren. Aber da bin ich noch weit weg ;-)
Wordpress Themes mit Sponsorlink
Bei Small Potato wird mal wieder die Diskussion um Sponsoring für Wordpress Themes aufgewärmt (Teil 1 dazu) und weil ich ja das vor ein paar Wochen selber angefangen hab, trag ich das ganze mal in den deutschsprachigen Raum.
Small Potato beschwert sich darüber dass die Sache inzwischen große Ausmaße annimmt und der Großteil der neuen Themes Sponsorenlinks haben. Bei manchen Themes wird sogar derart übertrieben dass drei oder vier Sponsorenlinks enthalten sind. Oder Themes die in verschiedenen Geschmacksrichtungen veröffentlicht werden bei denen nur ein paar Farben verändert wurden. Ganz üble schwarze Schafe sind jene die ein bestehendes Template nehmen (manche portieren auch nur von einem ins andere Softwae-System), es ein wenig verändern und noch einen Sponsorlink dazupacken. Die sind gott-sei-dank wenige aber ich denke mal es werden mehr werden.
De facto hat jeder User die Möglichkeit den Sponsorlink wieder zu entfernen und einige werden das auch tun. Leider gibt es aber ein paar Designer die darauf bestehen dass der Link drinnen bleibt, anders als zum Beispiel BloggingPro es machen die das Theme unter CreativeCommons-Lizenz stellen und es dem User damit erlauben den Link zu entfernen. Bei einem wirklich beliebten Theme ist's eh wurscht ob's ein paar weniger sind und bei einem schlechten Theme hat der Sponsor hoffentlich nicht zu viel bezahlt.
Einzig Leidtragende in der Causa sind mener Meinung nach die Leute die sich die Mühe machen Themes zu sammeln, zu verlinken und der Öffentlichkeit zu präsentieren. themes.wordpress.net wird seit der großen Öffnung vor ein paar Wochen eh schon stark überschwemmt, genauso weblogtoolscollection.com wo täglich eine Liste mit den neuen Themes rauskommt. Auch die anderen haben's schwer den Überblick zu behalten und damit wird wohl öfters ein gutes Theme eines neuen Designers ganz einfach übersehen was ja sehr schade ist.
Wo wird die Sache hinsteuern? Auf jeden Fall mehr Themes (dafür sorg ich selber ja auch), auch für andere Software-Systeme (PHPLD und Proxy-Software zum Beispiel, auch wenn's nichts mit Blogging zu tun hat) und in ein paar Wochen oder Monaten auch ein Preisverfall bei den eher schlechten Themes was dazu führt dass diese noch schlampiger gemacht werden... Ich verfolg die Sache im Forum von Digitalpoint erst seit ein paar Wochen, aber seitdem hat die Zahl der Theme-Sponsor-Auktionen stark zugenommen. Ich glaube also nicht so sehr an diese Geschäftsmodell wie es The Blog Herald tut.
Ein möglicher Ausweg? Ich denke mal man wird früher oder später themes.wordpress.net gegen Sponsor-Links abdichten, zumindest eine Beschränkung auf einen Link muss sein. Verhindern kann man sie nicht, notfalls werden die Themes halt komplett verkauft und der Sponsor muss sie selber hosten. Das scheint wohl die Taktik von BloggingPro zu sein.
Mein Ausweg? Definitiv nur noch ein paar Themes lang mit Sponsorlink und dann bei gleichem Tempo ohne Sponsorlink. Die Links verkaufe ich dann nur noch für die Theme die auch erfolgreich sind. Es macht sich doch auch viel besser wenn man für ein Theme schon ein Dutzend User in der ersten Woche aufweisen kann und der Sponsor davon ausgehen kann dass sich das so fortsetzt.

Bald neues Theme: mental offset
Das Theme mental offset hab ich mal vor anderthalb Jahren entworfen und lange für mein Blog verwendet und jetzt will ich's auch gerne soweit fertig kriegen dass ich's in die Öffentlichkeit entlassen kann. Mir persönlich ist's inzwischen zu dunkel aber es gibt ja Leut die sowas mögen.
Anders als beim letzten Theme The Green One werde ich diesmal einen Sponsor-Link einbauen. Ich hatte ja eh schon über Sponsoring nachgedacht und jetzt hab ich bei Digital Point eine Auktion gestartet. Man darf mir aber auch eine E-Mail mit einem Angebot schicken.
